Turbine extraction valves

Solutions

Turbine extraction

Turbines in power generation plants have steam extraction lines to send steam to preheaters, low-pressure turbines, or for use in certain processes. Turbine extraction valves are associated with these lines.

Challenges and difficulties

In the event of a loss of turbine pressure, a quick shut-off is required to prevent the backflow of steam with water in the line, which would damage the turbine. The required shut-off time is normally less than 1 second.

Valve responsibility: valve malfunction can irreversibly damage the turbine, with the economic impact that this represents.

Solution proposed by Ringo and advantages

Ringo offers a check valve with a single-acting pneumatic or hydraulic actuator which, in the event of a turbine failure, closes the valve by means of a spring.

The actuator can be installed laterally in a horizontal or vertical position and also on the cover, depending on space restrictions.

Robust design of the mechanism transmitting the movement of the actuator to the flap.

Counterweight to ensure complete opening of the valve regardless of pressure, reducing the pressure drop across the valve and thus increasing the efficiency of the system.
