Desuperheater

Ringo Desuperheater is a high-efficiency device designed to reduce the temperature of superheated steam through atomized water injection. This process protects downstream equipment from high-temperature damage and optimizes the thermal efficiency of the system, ensuring precise and safe steam conditions.

Features and MaterialsDesign and Applications

Features

  • Precision Atomization: Water injected in droplets smaller than 100 µm for homogeneous mixing and rapid heat absorption.
  • Fast Response: Quick response to changes in thermal load, maintaining the desired steam temperature.
  • Minimal Pressure Drop: Designed for a pressure drop below 0.2 bar under design conditions, optimizing system efficiency.
  • Flexible Configurations: Available in single-stage or multi-stage configurations to meet different temperature reduction capacities.
  • Automated Control: Easy integration with automated control systems (SCADA) for precise, remote operation.
  • Durability: Robust design incorporating anti-corrosion and thermal shock protection, extending service life.
  • Simple Maintenance: Quick access to injection nozzles for efficient and reduced maintenance.
  • High Accuracy: Capable of maintaining steam temperature within ±2 °C.
  • Steam Versatility: Suitable for saturated or slightly superheated steam.
  • Flexible Installation: Adaptable for horizontal and vertical steam lines.

Body Design

  • The desuperheater body is designed to withstand high pressures and temperatures of superheated steam, with robust construction in carbon steel or special alloys depending on application.
  • Optimized to minimize pressure drop and avoid turbulence zones that could cause premature wear.
  • Connections are typically flanged or threaded, adapting to system configurations.
  • Internal geometry facilitates efficient mixing of injected water with the steam.

Construction Materials

  • Body Materials: Carbon Steel (A105, A216 WCB) for general service; Stainless Steel (304, 316, 321) for higher corrosion and temperature resistance; Heat-resistant alloys such as P11, P22, P91 for power plant applications; Nickel Alloys (Inconel, Hastelloy) for highly corrosive conditions.
  • Trim Materials (Internal): Injectors and nozzles in hardened stainless steel (316, 17-4 PH) or Stellite for wear resistance; Internals designed to withstand high steam velocity and continuous erosion; Seals and moving components in temperature- and thermal-shock-resistant materials (graphite, Inconel, etc.); In mechanically or assisted atomization versions, mixing elements are manufactured to tight tolerances to achieve fine, uniform spray.

Trim Design

  • Atomized water injection systems, which can be single, multiple, or staged nozzles to ensure fine and homogeneous spray.
  • Some designs incorporate mechanical or assisted mixing systems to improve heat transfer.
  • Trim materials are selected to resist erosion, corrosion, and frequent thermal shocks.
  • Fine adjustment systems allow precise control of the injected water volume.

Applications

  • Power Generation: Essential in thermal, combined-cycle, and nuclear plants for steam temperature control.
  • Petrochemical Industry and Refineries: Used for steam regulation in various processes.
  • Industrial Boilers: Temperature control in reactors and industrial boilers to protect equipment and optimize efficiency.
